I am a Director Of Technology for a school in Vermont, USA. I created this program because teachers were requesting the features.

• http://italc.sourceforge.net/ ~ This allows you to view all the computers screens at once, it also will allow you to publish your screen to the computers.
• http://www.scriptstart.com/ ~ This will help with writeing logon scripts for your AD network.
• http://www.untangle.com/ ~ This is a contentfilter, firewall, SpamFilter, ......
• OpenOffice ~  This is an alternative to Microsoft Office.   If you are a school you can install StarOffice, which is the same thing but with better clipart.
• TypeFaster ~ Simple free typeing program designed for schools.
• Edubuntu ~ Can't go wrong with ltsp :).  
• SADMS ~ This is the simplest way I have found to add linux to Active Directory.
• TuxPaint ~ A great alternative to Kidpics
• Freemind ~ Mind mapping, similar to Inspiration.
• GoogleDocs ~ fully webbased wordprocessor, spreadsheet, presentation.
• GoogleApps ~ Free to educational institutions, it is email, and the other google apps, that will work with your current domain.
